Women Parliamentary Caucus Honors Benazir Bhutto
Dr. Shahida Rehmani, MNA and Secretary of the Women’s Parliamentary Caucus, paid tribute to Benazir Bhutto on her 73rd birth anniversary, describing her as a remarkable leader whose influence continues to shape Pakistan’s democratic and political journey. Speaking in Islamabad on June 21, 2026, she said Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto’s courage, vision and commitment to public service remain a source of inspiration for the country.
Dr. Rehmani noted that Benazir Bhutto made history as the first woman Prime Minister of Pakistan and the Muslim world, breaking long-standing barriers for women in politics and leadership. Her rise to national leadership, she said, opened new possibilities for women and strengthened the belief that public office should be accessible to all on the basis of merit and dedication.
She said Benazir Bhutto was more than a political figure, calling her a symbol of hope, resilience and progress for women across Pakistan. According to Dr. Rehmani, her struggle for democracy, human rights and social justice continues to guide those working for a more inclusive society, while her personal example still resonates strongly among young Pakistanis.
The WPC secretary also highlighted Benazir Bhutto’s focus on education, healthcare and economic opportunity, particularly for women and marginalized communities. She said these priorities reflected a broader vision of national development in which women would have the space and support to participate fully in public life and contribute to the country’s future.
