Driving Responsible Reporting with Media Fellowship
A provincial media fellowship has been inaugurated at the University of Peshawar to strengthen responsible reporting, accurate representation and advocacy against gender-based violence and child marriage. The ceremony at the Sir Sahibzada Abdul Qayum Auditorium brought together the university vice chancellor, representatives from the Social Welfare Department, UNFPA, SPO, faculty members, media professionals and human rights advocates to mark the launch.
KPCSW chairperson addressed the gathering and highlighted the critical role of media in social change, noting that every headline, image and word shapes public perception. The chairperson said the media fellowship will promote evidence-based reporting on sensitive issues such as GBV and underage marriage, and will support dignified coverage of survivors.
The commission has prioritised ending child marriage and is working to activate District Child Support Wings (DCSWs) to deliver timely and effective services at district level. As part of this initiative, the media fellowship will provide journalists with targeted training, technical guidance and support for evidence-led advocacy so that reporting moves from awareness to action.
Speakers encouraged media fellows to spotlight not only traditional social concerns but also the rising challenge of digital exploitation facing women in politics, urging coverage that protects dignity and advances accountability. The event concluded with presentation of honorary souvenirs to distinguished guests in recognition of their participation and collaboration.
The media fellowship is designed to equip journalists across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with skills and resources for responsible reporting, reinforcing the idea that responsible journalism can save lives and drive meaningful policy response on GBV and child protection.
