SHARP Boosts Youth Engagement at Karachi University

Advocate Qurat-ul-Ain, Incharge RDC Karachi, visited the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Karachi and held discussions with Prof. Dr. Shagufta Ishtiyaque, the department chairperson, to strengthen ties between SHARP and the academic community. The meeting focused on practical steps to involve students in community awareness and resilience work while forging stronger institutional links.

Both leaders reviewed SHARP’s mandate and current projects, highlighting an expanding emphasis on climate resilience and public awareness. The conversation underscored how academic collaboration can amplify SHARP’s outreach and support evidence-based community initiatives across Karachi. The focus on youth engagement was central to planning sustained, locally relevant activities.

Advocate Qurat-ul-Ain spoke directly with female students about SHARP’s Youth Awareness Sessions, which cover empowerment, personal safety and academic development. Students were encouraged to take leadership roles in peer learning and community campaigns, reflecting SHARP’s model of empowering young people to become informed advocates within their neighbourhoods and universities.

The visit reinforced commitment to stronger academic linkages, youth-focused programmes and meaningful community engagement, and set the stage for joint awareness activities and youth-led environmental initiatives. By combining university expertise with SHARP’s outreach, stakeholders aim to build a more informed and climate-resilient society in Karachi and beyond, with youth engagement driving local solutions.
