Advancing Industry Formalization in Rawalpindi
The Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce & Industry convened a Standing Committee session on Industry Formalization and industrial compliance at the RCCI offices, led by President Usman Shaukat and chaired by Sh. Basit Ilyas. The meeting focused on practical steps to bring more businesses into the formal economy and to align local industry practices with regulatory expectations.
Senior chamber leaders including Vice President Fahad Barlas and Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee Ali Irfan Mirza, along with Executive Committee members and representatives from industry, participated in detailed discussions on documentation needs and compliance hurdles. Participants highlighted how streamlined processes for registration and record keeping can accelerate Industry Formalization across the region.
Delegates examined core challenges faced by manufacturers and service providers, including gaps in regulatory frameworks, inconsistent enforcement, and administrative barriers that hinder ease of doing business. The session explored how clearer guidelines and improved coordination between regulators and the private sector can reduce compliance costs and support sustainable growth.
Recommendations emerging from the meeting emphasized targeted reforms to simplify industrial documentation, capacity building for firms on compliance requirements, and policy measures to encourage formal registration. The committee described the session as productive, underlining a shared commitment to strengthen industrial governance and to promote enduring, compliance-driven development in Rawalpindi.
