Strengthening Legal Capacity in Nowshera

SHARP under its protection project organized a capacity building workshop in Nowshera to strengthen legal capacity among the local bar, drawing participation from 52 lawyers including 28 male and 14 female practitioners. The event highlighted the role of the legal community in delivering inclusive protection and legal assistance to vulnerable populations across the district.

Mr. Hamid Latif, Protection Officer, opened the session with a welcome address that outlined SHARP’s mandate and protection-focused interventions, setting the context for practical legal engagement. UN partner representative Mr. Amir Hamza briefed attendees on ongoing collaborations and areas where joint efforts can expand access to justice.

Technical sessions emphasized core protection themes relevant to the district. Prof. Nadeem Farid presented on human rights, international human rights law, fundamental rights in the Constitution of Pakistan and international humanitarian law, underscoring how these frameworks support local practice. Mr. Salman Farooq, Protection Officer, focused on the international protection framework and refugee protection in migration and repatriation contexts, providing guidance useful for lawyers handling protection cases.

The workshop was attended by senior bar leadership, with Mr. Mian Arshad Jan, President District Bar Nowshera, as chief guest and Mr. Fawad, General Secretary District Bar Nowshera, as guest of honor. Mr. Mian Irshad Advocate commended SHARP’s efforts and stressed the importance of ongoing professional learning to reinforce legal capacity and service delivery for affected communities.

At closing, Project Director Memoona Batool Khan thanked the bar leadership and participants for their engagement and support. Certificates were distributed by the chief guest, and the SHARP KP team received recognition for organizing the workshop. The event reaffirmed the commitment of Nowshera’s legal community to strengthen legal protection and ensure inclusive access to justice for vulnerable groups.
