Rwanda and Pakistan Boost Higher Education Ties

Rwanda’s High Commissioner to Pakistan, Ms. Fatou Harerimana, held talks with Minister of State for Federal Education and Professional Training, Ms. Wajiha Qamar, in Islamabad to strengthen cooperation in higher education and skills development.

The delegation discussed closer collaboration through the HEC to expand academic linkages, joint programmes and recognition of qualifications that support student mobility and research partnerships. Strengthening higher education institutions was framed as a key step to enhance bilateral academic ties and shared capacity building.

Both sides emphasised development of the TVET sector and exchange of best practices in teachers’ training to improve workforce readiness. Practical cooperation in vocational training was highlighted as a pathway to deliver industry-relevant skills for youth in both countries.

Emerging fields such as Artificial Intelligence and Information Technology featured prominently in discussions, with officials exploring collaborative projects, faculty exchanges and joint curricula to prepare students for digital economies. Opportunities for scholarships and academic exchange schemes were also examined to deepen people-to-people connections and build future-ready human capital between Rwanda and Pakistan.
