Railway Pensioners Demand Doubling of Pensions
The All Pakistan Railways Pensioners Association has called on the federal government to approve a 100 percent increase in pensions and medical allowance in the 2026–27 federal budget, citing soaring inflation and sharply rising medicine costs that have made basic healthcare unaffordable for many retirees.
The demand was formalised through a resolution unanimously adopted at an emergency meeting chaired by Muhammad Aslam Adil Butt. Members of the central cabinet joined the session via video link while Additional Secretary General Abdul Razzaq Shah Jilani, acting in the absence of Secretary General Aurangzeb Tanoli, presented a comprehensive briefing and tabled the resolution that won full support from participants.
Railway Pensioners warned that escalating prices have deepened the financial distress of senior citizens and urged the government to treat the matter as a humanitarian priority. The resolution presses for an immediate 100 percent hike in pensions and medical allowances and calls for prompt settlement of all outstanding dues owed to retired employees.
Participants appealed for urgent action to protect the dignity and wellbeing of former railway staff and cautioned that elderly pensioners may be forced to organise protests if their demands continue to be ignored. The meeting ended with prayers for the security and prosperity of the country and for a swift resolution of pensioners’ issues.
