Islamabad, August 4, 2026: The Higher Education Commission (HEC), in collaboration with the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT) and Alibaba Cloud Intelligence Group, organised a full-day executive training programme on artificial intelligence and digital transformation at HEC Islamabad.
Titled “AI for Public Sector Leaders,” the programme was arranged in line with the Prime Minister’s Office directive to advance the strategic digital transformation agenda across federal ministries, divisions and entities.
The training session was held at HEC’s Smart Classroom and was attended by members of HEC’s Senior Management Committee.
Dr Jawad Shah, Senior Solution Architect (Big Data & AI), Alibaba Cloud, Singapore, conducted the session. He briefed participants on the changing AI landscape, practical use of AI in the public sector, and opportunities to use data and AI-driven solutions for organisational transformation.
The interactive programme enabled participants to examine the strategic implications of adopting AI, along with the challenges linked to its effective implementation in public sector institutions.
Speaking on the occasion, HEC Chairman Prof Dr Niaz Ahmad Akhtar highlighted the need to adopt emerging technologies, especially artificial intelligence, to improve institutional efficiency, promote innovation and support evidence-based decision-making.
He reiterated HEC’s commitment to strengthening digital capabilities and preparing its leadership with the knowledge and skills needed to respond effectively to the fast-changing technological environment.
HEC Executive Director Dr Zia Ul Haq was also present on the occasion.
The initiative reflects HEC’s focus on digital transformation, innovation and emerging technologies, while providing its senior leadership with contemporary knowledge and strategic insight to strengthen institutional capacity and modernise higher education governance.
