Veteran Actress Ayesha Khan Found Dead in Karachi Apartment at Age 76

In a tragic incident, renowned Pakistani television actress Ayesha Khan was found dead in her apartment in Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Karachi. According to police sources, her body appeared to be nearly a week old. She had been living alone in the apartment.

The incident came to light after neighbors reported a foul smell emanating from her residence. Upon being alerted, police arrived at the scene and transferred her remains to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for medical and legal procedures. Later, her body was moved to the Edhi Foundation morgue in Sohrab Goth.

Police confirmed that a post-mortem examination would be conducted only upon the request of her family.

Born in 1948, Ayesha Khan was the elder sister of another celebrated actress, Khalida Riyasat. She rose to fame for her powerful performances in several classic Pakistan Television (PTV) dramas such as Afshan, Uroosa, Aanch, Bandhan, and Shaam Se Pehle. Her most iconic role was in Afshan, where she portrayed a sorrowful woman who, after losing her husband and brother during the Partition, devotes her life to raising her child and niece while waiting for her husband’s return.

Reacting to her passing, Ahmed Shah, President of the Arts Council of Pakistan, expressed deep sorrow. “Ayesha Khan served the television industry for over five decades. Her death marks a monumental loss for Pakistan’s drama community,” he said.
