The President of the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI), Prof. Dr. Ahmed Saad Alahmed, recently met with Prof. Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, Chairman of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and Rector of IIUI, to review crucial aspects of the university’s academic strategy and institutional development. The discussions centered on enhancing academic standards, strengthening IIUI’s Islamic identity, and implementing wide-ranging reforms aimed at ensuring transparency, merit, and integrity across the institution.
During the meeting, the university’s ongoing reform measures were thoroughly examined. Both leaders underscored the importance of digitizing administrative systems to improve efficiency, expanding faculty development initiatives, and boosting student engagement. They agreed that upcoming meetings of the Selection Board and Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) should be conducted with the utmost fairness and transparency, reflecting IIUI’s commitment to merit-based processes.
A shared priority was the need to protect and foster IIUI’s distinctive role as a hub of Islamic learning that balances traditional roots with the demands of contemporary scholarship. The President pledged to steer the university towards a governance model that is robust, rule-based, and resistant to undue influence, thereby ensuring decisions are made equitably and transparently.
Prof. Dr. Ahmed Saad Alahmed further highlighted his dedication to cultivating a vibrant research culture within the university, encouraging innovation and scholarly inquiry. He stressed that immediate efforts would be made to upgrade campus infrastructure and student facilities, recognizing that a supportive physical environment plays a critical role in enhancing the overall academic experience.
Financial sustainability was also a focal point of the discussion. Both the President and the Rector agreed on the urgency of diversifying revenue streams, establishing public-private partnerships, and attracting investments to bolster IIUI’s long-term autonomy and stability. These efforts are intended to secure the university’s ongoing capacity to serve both students and faculty effectively.
Chairman HEC praised the student-centric leadership approach demonstrated by the IIUI President, noting visible progress in bridging the gap between the student body and university administration. He expressed confidence that such reform-minded leadership would not only drive IIUI’s academic revitalization but also strengthen educational ties between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. Reaffirming HEC’s unwavering support, the Chairman committed to assisting the university in quality assurance, curriculum development, and merit-based faculty advancement.
Both sides agreed that continued dialogue between IIUI and HEC will be essential to ensure that the university’s reforms remain aligned with national higher education objectives.
