AKU Health Economics Group Launches Collaborative Research in Pakistan

The Aga Khan University (AKU) has launched a new Health Economics and Policy Group, bringing together leading experts and researchers to strengthen applied health economics and policy research in Pakistan. The group’s inaugural meeting marked the beginning of a dedicated platform for fostering collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and evidence-based policy analysis to support health system decision-making nationwide.
The meeting assembled participants from several prominent institutions, including the Institute of Business Administration, Karachi, the Institute of Business Management (IoBM), the Warwick Medical School at the University of Warwick, and AKU’s own Department of Community Health Sciences and Division of Women and Child Health. This diverse representation underscored the group’s commitment to interdisciplinary partnerships and a broad approach to tackling key health policy challenges.
By establishing this group, AKU aims to cultivate a national network where professionals can engage in meaningful discussions on health economics and policy. The initiative is designed to facilitate collaborative research projects, provide opportunities for professional networking, and build capacity among researchers, faculty, and policymakers in Pakistan.
Moving forward, the Health Economics and Policy Group plans to prioritize joint research endeavors and targeted capacity-building activities. These efforts are intended to generate robust, locally-relevant evidence that can inform health policy decisions and ultimately enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of Pakistan’s healthcare system.
