Pakistan Monsoon Tree Plantation Drives Nationwide Effort

**Pakistan Finalizes Strategy for Ambitious Monsoon Tree Plantation Campaign**
Pakistan’s Ministry of Climate Change and Environmental Coordination has completed preparations for a nationwide Monsoon Tree Plantation Campaign, aiming to maximize native and climate-resilient tree planting between August and October. The government will emphasize provincial cooperation, public engagement, and ecological sustainability throughout the initiative.
Finalized during a high-level meeting chaired by Federal Minister Dr. Musadik Malik, the campaign strategy brings together stakeholders from multiple sectors. Participants included Ministry Secretary Ms. Aisha Humera Moriani, Secretary of Inter-Provincial Coordination Mr. Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani, National Assembly Members Ms. Zahra Fatemi and Ms. Saba Sadiq, and senior officials from associated departments.
A central focus of the meeting was to develop a united approach for plantation drives across Islamabad and all provinces. Dr. Malik underscored the importance of leveraging the monsoon season’s August-to-October window, directing all administrative units to expedite their efforts and planning to achieve maximum impact during this period.
Inclusivity and public engagement emerged as critical themes in the campaign. The plan involves mobilizing students, educational institutions, public sector organizations, and communities nationwide. To boost mass participation, especially in underserved areas, authorities will provide free saplings and work to ensure widespread access.
Sustainability is at the heart of the campaign, with stakeholders agreeing to prioritize native and climate-resilient tree species. This approach aims both to restore degraded landscapes and protect local ecosystems, while supporting climate adaptation and biodiversity improvement.
Effective implementation and long-term success will be overseen through rigorous monitoring and inter-provincial collaboration. Dr. Malik emphasized not only the need for coordinated planting efforts but also ongoing oversight and public awareness initiatives to maintain momentum beyond the campaign’s launch. The minister pointed out that the true measure of success will come from ensuring the growth and survival of newly planted trees.
The Monsoon Tree Plantation Campaign forms a key part of Pakistan’s broader environmental policy, targeting climate change mitigation, air quality improvement, and the expansion of green spaces in both urban and rural areas. By engaging people across the country, the government hopes to strengthen ecological resilience and foster a more sustainable national future.
