Haris Rauf docked 20pc match fee for ICC code breach

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan fast bowler Haris Rauf has been fined 20 per cent of his match fee for breaching the International Cricket Council (ICC) Code of Conduct during Sunday’s One-day International tri-series match against England.

According to an ICC media release issued on Wednesday, Haris was found guilty of a Level 1 breach after he appealed for a wide from the non-striker’s end in the 46th over and then argued with England all-rounder Will Jacks when the appeal was turned down.

The ICC said Haris ignored a warning from on-field umpire Sharfuddoula and continued the argument, while also raising his bat in frustration. He was charged under Article 2.20 of the Code of Conduct, which relates to “displaying conduct that is contrary to the spirit of the game”.

Besides the fine, Haris also received one demerit point, taking his tally to five in a 24-month period. This was his third offence during that time.

Haris accepted the offence and the sanction proposed by Jeff Crowe of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees. As a result, no formal hearing was required, the ICC said.

Under ICC regulations, four or more demerit points accumulated within 24 months are converted into two suspension points, which lead to a ban from one Test, two ODIs or two T20Is. Haris had served a two-ODI ban last year following breaches in three Asia Cup matches against India. If he reaches eight demerit points, the bans will be doubled.

Haris had made seven off 19 balls in a crucial last-wicket stand with Shadab Khan, whose century helped Pakistan secure a one-wicket win. The pair added 89 runs after Pakistan had slipped to 154-9 while chasing England’s 242, with Haris scoring the winning run to take Pakistan into the series final.

England were also penalised, receiving a 15 per cent match-fee fine for maintaining a slow over rate after being found three overs short of the required target at the allocated time. Captain Harry Brook accepted the offence and the sanction, the ICC said.

England failed to reach the final after losing their first three matches. Pakistan and Sri Lanka will meet in Saturday’s final in Lahore.
