Islamabad Steps Up Action Against Illegal Housing Societies

**CDA and Islamabad Authorities Vow Strict Action Against Illegal Housing Societies**
Islamabad authorities, led by Chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Chief Commissioner Islamabad Muhammad Ali Randhawa, have resolved to adopt a zero-tolerance policy against illegal housing societies and encroachments, aiming to protect investors and maintain the city’s natural beauty.
At a high-level meeting held at the Chief Commissioner’s Office, senior officials including CDA Members for Administration, Planning, and Engineering, Deputy Commissioner Islamabad, relevant Director Generals, and the Registrar of Cooperative Housing Societies reviewed ongoing actions against illegal housing developments in Islamabad’s various zones. The Member Planning CDA briefed the meeting on recent legal measures taken to curb unapproved housing projects.
The Chairman directed that all illegal and cooperative housing societies be clearly categorized, and a comprehensive database be created containing detailed records of each society’s layout plans, NOCs (No Objection Certificates), plot allotments, and details of societies found selling more files than permitted. This data would cover all societies within the jurisdiction of both the CDA and Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT).
Officials from CDA and ICT were instructed to take impartial, legal action against all illegal housing societies, including private and cooperative ones. The meeting also resolved to enforce a zero-tolerance policy toward unlawful constructions and land grabs, which not only disrupt residential areas but also threaten Islamabad’s environment and scenic appeal.
To assist the public, the meeting was informed that the CDA has published lists of legal and illegal housing societies on its website. This move is intended to help potential investors verify the legal status of any society through the CDA’s Planning Wing or official online portal before making financial commitments.
Furthermore, it was stressed that legal action would also be taken against individuals supplying building and construction materials to unauthorized societies. The authorities resolved to scrutinize layout plans and NOCs issued to housing schemes and to act against those selling plot files in excess of approved limits.
Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa instructed full enforcement of ICT Zoning Regulations and directed officials to ensure swift and effective measures against unauthorized societies, emphasizing the protection of citizens’ interests. He reiterated that the CDA’s foremost priority is the orderly development of Islamabad and meeting the housing needs of its residents, and reiterated the agency’s commitment to robust action against any illegal construction or housing scheme to ensure safe investment opportunities under the law.
