Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif inaugurated the upgradation of the Geoscience Advanced Research Laboratories (GARL) in Islamabad on 17 October 2025. The GARL upgradation is intended to enhance the capacity of national geoscience research and modern laboratory work across the country.
The upgraded facilities are expected to offer improved resources for scientific study and practical geological analysis, helping researchers and students engage in advanced geoscience projects. The GARL upgradation underlines a broader emphasis on strengthening research infrastructure within Pakistan.
At the inauguration the Prime Minister noted the importance of modern laboratories for evidence-based decision making on natural resources and environmental matters, while signalling continued support for scientific institutions. The GARL upgradation is positioned as a key step toward bolstering collaboration among research centres and academic partners in the region.
