Advancing Refugee Support With German Embassy

The Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Islamabad delegation visited SHARP for a focused exchange on protection, legal aid and community-based interventions. Delegates Ms. Violetta Kuzmova-Anand, First Secretary (Migration & Refugees, Human Rights, Rule of Law), and Ms. Petra Schmidt, Program Officer, were received by SHARP leadership including Mr. Liaqat Banori, Mr. Mudassar Javed and Mr. Aatif Afzal.

SHARP CEO Mr. Mudassar Javed outlined the organisation’s mission, ongoing initiatives and operational framework, then guided the delegation through the Reception Desk Center (RDC) where visitors observed frontline services for refugees and other vulnerable groups. The briefing highlighted how SHARP’s intake and case management systems deliver practical refugee support on the ground.

Chairman Mr. Liaqat Banori raised current concerns around deportations, border pressures and the limited legal pathways available for repatriation. He reiterated SHARP’s 26-year commitment to training law enforcement, the judiciary and government institutions on human and refugee rights, and stressed the importance of promoting women’s empowerment within the legal sector as part of sustainable protection strategies.

Project Director Mr. Aatif Afzal discussed SHARP projects that engage youth through performing arts and preventative work against child trafficking, emphasising community-driven and innovative approaches to protection. These activities were presented as complementary to legal aid and reception services, strengthening long-term resilience for affected communities.

Ms. Violetta Kuzmova-Anand acknowledged SHARP’s contributions to legal aid and humanitarian assistance and noted the value of partnerships that produce lasting impact. The meeting provided a constructive forum to explore cooperation on women’s empowerment in legal professions, measures to combat child trafficking and enhanced migration support mechanisms, with both sides affirming intent to pursue further collaboration to advance human rights and social protection in Pakistan.
