Counter Terrorism Strategies for the Digital Age

Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), in collaboration with Meta, hosted a high-level workshop titled “Counter Terrorism in the Digital Age” at PTA Headquarters. The event convened international experts, law enforcement agencies, and key stakeholders, emphasizing coordinated global efforts to enhance digital safety and effectively address online extremism.

PTA Chairman Major General (R) Hafeez ur Rehman, along with Dr. Nawab Osman, Meta’s Lead for Dangerous Organizations and Individuals (DOI) Policy, highlighted the growing need for stronger policies and extensive collaboration to combat misuse of online platforms for extremist purposes. Both PTA and Meta emphasized their shared responsibility in countering digital threats, advocating a proactive approach toward digital safety and online security.

Other representatives from PTA and Meta also participated actively, discussing strategies and exchanging best practices for monitoring, identifying, and managing extremist content through effective policy frameworks. Participants recognized the critical importance of collective action, technological advancements, and capacity building in law enforcement as key components of an effective strategy against online terror threats.

The workshop also underscored the significance of continuous innovation and the adaptation of digital policies to evolving threats. Participants committed to ongoing cooperation, emphasizing a unified approach that prioritizes public safety while safeguarding digital rights and freedoms.
