Islamabad Dengue Control Sweeps and Prevention Tips

The District Health Office Islamabad, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, has stepped up citywide dengue control efforts, carrying out targeted sweep operations in high-risk neighborhoods. Field teams are conducting door-to-door surveillance, larval destruction, spraying and fogging, and running community awareness campaigns, while local authorities enforce compliance through fines and legal action.

Teams from the health office are visiting households across the city to identify and eliminate mosquito breeding sites. Activities include inspecting water containers, applying larvicides, and performing targeted spraying and fogging in areas with reported cases. Outreach workers are also engaging residents with information on how to reduce the risk of dengue transmission.

Entomologist Qasim Shujra inspected several locations in Union Council Bara Kahu to assess case response efforts and evaluate the performance of field teams. The visit aimed to identify gaps in current operations and to recommend adjustments to improve the effectiveness of dengue control measures.

The district administration has warned that violations of standard operating procedures will be met with strict penalties. Heavy fines are being imposed on offenders and First Information Reports are being filed in relevant cases to ensure accountability and reinforce public compliance with prevention measures.

Health officials urge residents to take simple but effective precautions: clean water containers, tanks, plant pots and coolers every day; wear long-sleeved clothing; use mosquito repellents such as sprays and lotions; sleep under mosquito nets; and install screens on windows and doors. By following these steps, residents can help limit mosquito breeding and reduce the spread of dengue.
