Cricket Trials to Showcase Rawalpindi Talent

Rawalpindi — Barrister Danyal Chaudhry, Federal Parliamentary Secretary for Information and Broadcasting, announced that cricket trials will be held on May 2 as part of the Punjab government’s drive to promote sports and provide youth with opportunities based on merit.

Speaking as chief guest at the CM Punjab Inter-District Kabaddi Championship 2026 held at ARL Hockey Ground, Morgah, Barrister Danyal said the provincial leadership, following the vision of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, is investing in world-class sports facilities to guide young people toward productive activities.

He emphasized that the development of sports grounds and organized events brings positive social change and helps keep youth away from negative influences, underlining that promoting sports is a pressing need for communities across the region. The upcoming cricket trials are intended to be fully merit-based so talented players can progress on ability alone.

After the successful conclusion of the kabaddi championship, the cricket trials on May 2 will result in the selection of 10 players from the Under-23 category, 2 from Under-19, and 4 from the Open category to represent Rawalpindi at the Punjab level. With support from the Sports Board, selected players will receive modern facilities, coaching, and guidance aimed at preparing them for national and international competition.

Barrister Danyal congratulated the organisers of the kabaddi tournament and praised the relevant association for its role in promoting the sport. He noted that while sports were neglected in the past, current efforts are focused on grassroots development to uncover and nurture fresh talent across the province.
