Foreign Medical Graduates Demand Clear Registration Path

The Peshawar High Court’s decision to set aside a Pakistan Medical and Dental Council notification has prompted renewed calls from Foreign Medical Graduates for immediate and clear guidance on registration and examinations.

The ruling emphasised that regulatory changes must not disadvantage students who enrolled under earlier policies, a point many stakeholders have welcomed as a reinforcement of fairness and consistency in medical regulation.

Representatives, including Dr. Rafey Sher, say a large number of graduates are waiting for firm instructions on provisional registration and eligibility to sit the National Registration Examination (NRE). They stress that timely communication from the relevant authorities will be essential to prevent confusion and allow graduates to plan their next steps.

The matter has been raised in discussions with policymakers and covered widely in the media, with participants calling for a transparent and predictable process for graduates returning from abroad. Observers note that effective coordination between regulatory bodies and affected students is crucial to implement the court’s direction smoothly.

Education experts add that maintaining public trust in regulatory institutions depends on consistent application of policy and clear, prompt communication with stakeholders. Authorities are being urged to issue practical guidance so Foreign Medical Graduates can proceed with minimal disruption to their careers.
