Jamaat-e-Islami Membership Drive Intensifies in Gujrat

Dr Tariq Saleem and Chaudhry Ansar Mahmood inaugurated a major membership camp in Gujrat as part of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan’s provincewide Badl Do Nizam campaign. Party workers have set up multiple camps across Punjab and are engaging citizens in streets, neighborhoods, markets and bazaars to encourage public participation in the Jamaat-e-Islami membership drive. Dr Khalid Mahmood Saqib, Raja Naeem Khawar and other officials attended the event.

Addressing attendees, Dr Tariq Saleem said rising inflation, corruption, unemployment and continuous increases in petroleum, gas and electricity prices have made daily life unbearable for ordinary families. He urged youth, women and senior citizens to register for Jamaat-e-Islami membership and take part in an organised struggle to bring systemic change. He described the campaign as a peaceful, democratic and ideological movement aimed at creating a system based on justice, public relief and equal access to basic services.

Dr Tariq Saleem welcomed Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman’s announcement of a nationwide protest on May 1 against the sharp rise in petroleum and electricity costs. He criticised the government for heavy fuel levies, saying consumers effectively pay up to Rs 107 per litre in taxes on petrol. He also pointed to multiple components inflating electricity bills, including GST, the Neelum-Jhelum surcharge, fuel price adjustments and capacity payments to IPPs, all of which place an unsustainable burden on households.

In his remarks Dr Tariq Saleem highlighted the perceived failure of major parties to deliver meaningful improvements, saying governance by Pakistan Muslim League (N) and Pakistan Peoples Party often exists only in advertisements despite years in office. He called on citizens to unite behind Jamaat-e-Islami’s mission to establish a fair, transparent and people-centric system and to strengthen the Jamaat-e-Islami membership base to press for real change.
