FJWU and ECP Partner to Boost Civic Awareness and Electoral Engagement

Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to promote civic awareness, inclusive engagement, and active participation in Pakistan’s electoral process. This strategic partnership aims to enhance electoral literacy, foster responsible citizenship, and encourage women’s active participation in democratic activities through collaborative educational and research initiatives.
The MoU was formally signed by Mr. Umar Hamid Khan, Secretary of the Election Commission of Pakistan, and Prof. Dr. Bushra Mirza (recipient of the Pride of Performance and Tamgha-i-Imtiaz awards), Vice Chancellor of Fatima Jinnah Women University, during an official ceremony at the Election Commission Secretariat in Islamabad. Chief Election Commissioner, Mr. Sikandar Sultan Raja, along with other distinguished Members of the Election Commission, participated in the event.
In his address, Chief Election Commissioner Mr. Sikandar Sultan Raja emphasized the significance of the agreement as a strategic alliance aimed at improving civic education and fostering inclusive electoral processes. He particularly acknowledged the prominent national role played by Fatima Jinnah Women University in empowering women students and actively engaging youth in voter education efforts throughout the country.
Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Bushra Mirza welcomed this collaborative initiative and noted that this partnership underscores a shared responsibility towards nurturing responsible citizenship and enhancing the role of young women in the democratic system. She expressed confidence in the partnership’s ability to generate sustained and long-term benefits. Prof. Dr. Mirza also outlined plans to establish a network of student ambassadors, who will receive specialized training to conduct and lead grassroots voter education initiatives across various forums and communities.
Secretary of the Election Commission, Mr. Umar Hamid Khan, reaffirmed the Commission’s steadfast commitment to partnering with FJWU in the implementation of voter awareness campaigns, mock election activities, and outreach programs involving university students and local communities. He further highlighted the MoU’s future scope for conducting joint research studies on youth voting behavior, women’s inclusion in electoral processes, and recommendations for electoral reforms.
This collaboration represents an important milestone in the Election Commission of Pakistan’s broader strategic objectives, as it continues to pursue partnerships with academic institutions to effectively convey voter education, improve electoral awareness, and promote comprehensive democratic engagement across society.
