Pakistan Laos Enhance Bilateral Ties at ASEAN Forum

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar held a bilateral meeting with Thongsavanh Phomvihane, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, on the sidelines of the 32nd ASEAN Regional Forum Ministerial Meeting in Kuala Lumpur. During their discussion, both ministers assessed ongoing bilateral exchanges and expressed commitment to broaden cooperation in diverse fields, including trade, investment, education, tourism, and interpersonal connections.

Highlighting the cordial relations between their countries, the two foreign ministers reviewed the recent developments in bilateral interactions. They acknowledged the positive momentum in existing engagements and agreed to consolidate the growing partnership through targeted collaborative activities.

Recognizing substantial opportunities for economic growth, the ministers emphasized the importance of deepening trade and investment cooperation. They underscored the need to facilitate stronger business-to-business ties, exploring joint ventures that leverage complementary advantages of the two nations.

Furthering educational relations and enhancing cultural understanding were identified as key priority areas. The leaders reaffirmed their shared commitment to fostering higher education exchanges, encouraging academic collaboration, and promoting knowledge sharing between institutions.

Additionally, they discussed ways to enhance cooperation in tourism and promote closer people-to-people contacts. Both ministers stressed the significance of tourism as a means to strengthen mutual understanding and friendship, highlighting the potential for increased tourist exchanges and eased travel arrangements as mutually beneficial.

The meeting concluded with a mutual understanding to sustain engagement at various levels, pledging concerted efforts to realize these mutually beneficial objectives and promote continued bilateral cooperation between Pakistan and Lao People’s Democratic Republic.
