PNCA Miniature Painting Workshop Highlights Traditional Art

The Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA) has inaugurated a miniature painting workshop as part of its 79th Independence Day celebrations, attracting participants from a wide range of professional backgrounds, including engineers, doctors, lawyers, architects, and artists. The initiative aims to foster cultural appreciation and revive traditional art forms among Pakistani professionals.

The workshop provides comprehensive training in the intricate techniques of traditional miniature painting, focusing on both monochrome (Suffaid Qalam) and multicoloured (Guchrang) styles. The course reflects a growing national interest in Pakistan’s rich artistic heritage and serves as a platform for participants to deepen their understanding of this centuries-old craft.

Renowned visual artist and academic Ms. Farrah is leading the workshop. An Associate Professor at COMSATS University Islamabad and a graduate of the National College of Arts (NCA) Lahore, Ms. Farrah specializes in Mughal miniature painting. Her illustrious career includes participation in over 160 exhibitions worldwide, and she was recently honored with the President’s Award for Pride of Performance in 2024. Her artworks are part of significant collections, including those held by the World Bank and the Permanent Collection of the National Art Gallery at PNCA.

The event will culminate in an exhibition showcasing the works created by participants during the workshop. Attendees will also receive certificates in recognition of their efforts. This workshop is a key component of PNCA’s broader strategy to revitalize traditional art practices and encourage cultural exchange among professionals from diverse fields.
