International Day Against Nuclear Tests and Global Peace Efforts

Kazakhstan has marked the International Day against Nuclear Tests with renewed calls for global efforts to eliminate nuclear testing. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev emphasized the lasting impact of nuclear explosions on the Kazakh people and urged the international community to work together for peace and the complete prohibition of nuclear tests.

The International Day against Nuclear Tests was established by the United Nations General Assembly, following an initiative by Kazakhstan. The observance highlights the country’s experience in facing the devastating consequences of nuclear weapon tests and serves as a reminder that such tragedies must not be repeated.

President Tokayev stated that peace and security are the highest values that unite humanity and stressed the importance of strengthening peace for future generations. He called for greater international cooperation and steps toward a comprehensive ban on nuclear testing.

In conjunction with the day, Kazakhstan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Murat Nurtleu, and Robert Floyd, Executive Secretary of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization, released a joint statement reaffirming their commitment to nuclear disarmament. The full text of the statement can be found on the official website of Kazakhstan’s Foreign Ministry.
