Advancing Disaster Management with ASEAN
Islamabad, 19 December 2025 — The ASEAN Committee in Islamabad met with the National Disaster Management Authority where officials were briefed on national and global weather trends projected for 2026 and on the NDMA’s core roles and international collaborations.
During the discussion, NDMA extended an invitation to ASEAN member states to attend an international expo on disaster management technology to be held in Pakistan in March 2026 and proposed enhanced cooperation on technical expertise, information sharing and the development of joint action plans to boost regional preparedness.
The ASEAN Committee in Islamabad recommended exploring a strategic partnership with the ASEAN Humanitarian Assistance Centre and other related regional agencies to streamline coordination and strengthen joint responses to disasters across South and Southeast Asia.
As Pakistan’s lead policymaking agency for disaster response, NDMA coordinates unified action among government bodies and partner organisations and works with international institutions to reduce disaster risks. The forthcoming March expo is intended to showcase technology, knowledge exchange and opportunities for deeper collaboration on disaster management that are directly relevant to Pakistan and the wider region.
