Health Minister Leads Flood Emergency Response at NIH

The Federal Minister for Health, Mustafa Kamal, visited the Flood Emergency Operations Cell at the National Institute of Health (NIH) to assess the government’s ongoing efforts to provide healthcare assistance to communities affected by floods across Pakistan. During the visit, the Minister was briefed on the current response strategies and challenges in delivering essential medical services to the impacted areas. High-ranking officials from the Ministry of Health, the NIH, the World Health Organization (WHO), and provincial health departments also participated in the session, underlining the coordinated approach to the crisis.
Mustafa Kamal highlighted that the Ministry and its affiliated organizations are on high alert and are ensuring constant monitoring and coordination to meet the evolving health needs of flood victims. Control rooms are operational around the clock in the offices of all provincial Directors General Health to oversee and coordinate relief activities. The provincial governments have also appointed dedicated focal persons for flood-related health coordination to streamline efforts.
Emphasizing a united response, the Minister detailed that the Ministry is working closely with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), provincial governments, and international partners for an effective and timely response to emergencies. The NIH is actively monitoring for potential disease outbreaks and is collecting real-time data to address any emerging public health threats.
The Minister stated that all available resources are being mobilized to deliver healthcare to those affected by the floods. Essential medicines and vaccines have already been sent to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan in response to provincial requests, with the Ministry ensuring sufficient supplies to handle future needs. He reiterated the federal government’s commitment to working alongside provincial authorities to guarantee uninterrupted healthcare services for flood-affected families.
In a separate event, the Minister of State for National Health Services, Regulations & Coordination, Dr. Malik Mukhtar Ahmad Bharath, commended Integral Global for its ongoing support of Pakistan’s public health initiatives. He highlighted Integral Global’s contributions to the Prime Minister’s Programme for Hepatitis C Elimination and acknowledged the organization’s role in the development of Islamabad as a Model Health City, intended to serve as a benchmark for other cities in the country.
Integral Global’s representatives urged the rapid nationwide introduction of the Hepatitis B birth dose vaccine to reduce preventable infections among newborns. The Minister welcomed this recommendation, confirming that the Ministry will promptly consult with the provinces to address financial and logistical challenges, and formulate national and provincial work plans to make the vaccine widely accessible.
Integral Global also reported on the progress of its Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) campaign, which is raising health awareness and promoting better sanitation in underserved communities and schools. These initiatives include door-to-door public awareness, school-based activities, solid waste management, environmental cleanup, and increased vaccination awareness.
