Polio Eradication Initiative Engages Sindh Communities

Federal Health Minister Mustafa Kamal, together with community leaders and international partners, has led an influential meeting with key stakeholders in the Gujro community to promote polio vaccination efforts. The initiative aims to address misconceptions about the vaccine, encourage immunization, and galvanize local support to ensure all children are protected against polio.

Co-led by Mr. Iqbal Mehsud and joined by Mr. Rana Shoukat, Member Provincial Assembly PS-97, the event received support from Dr. Azeem, Team Leader at UNICEF. The Afghan Consulate General also participated, highlighting the cross-border importance of eradicating polio in the region.

The meeting included a diverse group of participants such as Madam Alison Clement, Senior Communication Specialist for Media, along with political, tribal, and religious leaders. Stakeholders and families who had previously refused polio vaccination—referred to as PMC refusal families—were also present.

Discussions centered on correcting false beliefs about polio vaccines and emphasized the crucial part that local influencers play in raising awareness. Leaders called on the community to work collectively to overcome resistance and secure a polio-free future for every child.
