FIA Arrests Three Engineers for Corruption in Housing Projects

**FIA Detains Three Public Works Engineers Over Multi-Million Rupee Corruption in Islamabad Housing Projects**
The Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) Anti-Corruption Circle has arrested three engineers affiliated with federal housing initiatives in Islamabad for their alleged involvement in large-scale corruption, embezzlement of public funds, and collusion with land mafias. The arrests mark a significant step in the agency’s ongoing drive to curb financial wrongdoing in government housing schemes.
The individuals detained are Meraj Afridi and Mehmood Irfan Qureshi, both Assistant Executive Engineers at the Public Works Department (PWD), and Naeem Akhtar, a Sub-Engineer at the Federal Government Employees Housing Authority (FGEHA). Preliminary findings indicate the trio abused their official positions, resulting in substantial losses to the national treasury estimated at millions of rupees.
Central to the case is the fraudulent management of the Supplementary Award of Built-Up Properties (BUPs) for subsectors within Mouza Thalla Syedan, G-14. FIA investigators allege that the officials manipulated property ownership documentation, unlawfully designating private individuals as co-owners of at least five BUPs. These individuals subsequently received land plots and financial compensation based on forged records.
Authorities further assert that the accused circumvented mandatory legal procedures and colluded with encroachment syndicates to execute the scheme. Their actions deprived genuine landowners of their entitlements and eroded public confidence in the federal government’s housing initiatives.
The FIA has formally launched further investigations following the arrests, confirming that all three suspects remain in custody for detailed interrogation. Officials stated that such breaches of trust by public servants would face full legal repercussions, reaffirming the agency’s commitment to protecting public assets and maintaining integrity within state institutions.
