Sindh Government Grants Home Ownership to Flood-Affected Women

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has announced that the Sindh government is transferring ownership rights of newly built houses for 2.1 million families affected by the 2022 floods directly to women. He emphasized that this initiative, inspired by the vision of the late Benazir Bhutto, aims to promote women’s economic empowerment across the province.

Bilawal Bhutto made this statement during a visit to Rahooja village in Ratodero, where he distributed ownership certificates to women recipients of the new homes. He was accompanied by PPP Women Wing Central President Faryal Talpur and Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah. Addressing the beneficiaries, Bilawal congratulated the women and their families, highlighting that the construction and transfer of these houses fulfills a long-standing promise made by the PPP and the Sindh government to provide essential support to those affected by the devastating floods.

Speaking to the women homeowners, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari underscored that these houses are not merely shelters but valuable financial assets, with their worth expected to grow over time. He encouraged the recipients to safeguard their homes, assuring them that their ownership is secure and protected. He reaffirmed the PPP’s commitment to the values and goals set by Benazir Bhutto, particularly her advocacy for “Roti, Kapra Aur Makan” (bread, clothing, and shelter) for all citizens, and said the decision to register homes in women’s names was a step toward greater economic strength and empowerment for women in affected communities.

Bilawal Bhutto praised the Sindh government for its efforts in constructing 2.1 million homes for flood victims and noted that additional projects are underway to equip these houses with solar energy systems for electricity. Other measures include the provision of proper sanitation and washing facilities to improve living standards.

During his visit, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari engaged with the villagers, discussing the construction of their homes, their financial circumstances, and the education needs of their children. Officials from the Sindh People’s Housing for Flood Affectees (SPHF) and the Sindh Rural Support Organization (SRSO) briefed him on progress, revealing that in Larkana district alone, work has begun on 90,000 out of 122,000 planned houses. The briefing also noted that, using the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) survey, thousands of solar kits—including bulbs, fans, inverters, batteries, and cables—have been distributed to deserving families, including those affected by the floods.

Several PPP leaders, assembly members, and local government representatives joined Bilawal Bhutto Zardari at the event, reiterating the party’s ongoing commitment to support and empower flood-affected communities across Sindh.
