Transforming Higher Education with AI Tools
The Faculty of Education at the International Islamic University Islamabad hosted a three-day workshop on AI Tools in collaboration with the Pakistan–U.S. Alumni Network and with support from the U.S. Mission to Pakistan at the Faisal Mosque Campus. The training aimed to strengthen the ability of educators and researchers to use artificial intelligence effectively in higher education settings across Pakistan.
About 30 participants, including faculty members and PhD and MS scholars, engaged in sessions designed to explore AI Tools for creativity, collaboration and critical inquiry. The programme emphasized hands-on practice so attendees could immediately apply new approaches to lesson design, assessment and research workflows.
Dr. Muhammad Riaz, Project Lead for the Pakistan–U.S. Alumni programme, served as lead trainer and guided participants through prompt engineering and practical applications of AI in research and assessment. Dr. Fouzia Ajmal led interactive activities showcasing classroom AI Tools and platforms that support student engagement and lesson creation, while Dr. Muhammad Sher Baz Ali focused on research uses of AI. Dr. Azhar Mahmood, Incharge Programs at the Faculty of Education, facilitated reflective discussions on classroom implementation and ethics.
The closing ceremony at the Allama Iqbal Auditorium was attended by Prof. Dr. Ahmed Saad Alahmed, President IIUI, who praised the Faculty of Education’s initiative to build AI literacy. He noted that AI can assist with answers and processes, but teachers remain central to inspiring curiosity and nurturing wisdom.
Dr. Azhar Mahmood welcomed guests and highlighted that participants both learned about AI and applied critical analysis to its classroom use. Dr. Muhammad Riaz reflected on the training outcomes and practical gains, and Dr. Fouzia Ajmal, as focal person, expressed gratitude to PUAN and the U.S. Mission to Pakistan for their support.
The workshop underlined the Faculty of Education’s commitment to integrating technology into teaching and research in line with IIUI’s vision of combining faith, knowledge and modern learning tools. Participants left prepared to incorporate AI Tools into their courses and studies, contributing to the ongoing development of Pakistan’s higher education landscape.
