South Africa beat Pakistan in Lahore to take ODI lead

South Africa Women beat Pakistan Women by eight wickets at Gaddafi Stadium after an unbeaten century from Marizanne Kapp and a composed 101 from Tazmin Brits completed a 256-run chase, while Pakistan’s Sidra Amin produced a valiant 121 not out in a losing cause.

Pakistan, electing to bat, stumbled early when Shawaal Zulfiqar was dismissed without scoring, but Muneeba Ali and Sidra Amin rebuilt the innings with a commanding 147-run partnership for the second wicket — Pakistan’s highest second-wicket stand in women’s ODIs and their third-highest partnership for any wicket. Muneeba reached her fifth fifty before being dismissed for 76 off 94 balls, striking 11 fours.

Aliya Riaz added a brisk 33 off 34 to steady the middle overs, and Sidra reached her fifth ODI century with a delicate dab to long-on. Sidra finished unbeaten on 121, including 12 fours, as Pakistan posted 255 for 4 from their 50 overs. Ayabonga Khaka led the South African bowling with figures of 9-0-36-2, while Tumi Sekhukhune and others chipped in.

Chasing 256, South Africa lost Laura Wolvaardt early, but Tazmin Brits and Sune Luus steadied the innings before Luus fell for 30. Brits then combined with Marizanne Kapp to put on an unbeaten 216-run third-wicket partnership. Kapp struck 13 fours and two sixes in an unbeaten 121 off 128 balls, while Brits finished 101 not out, steering the tourists to 259 for 2 in 48.2 overs — winning with 10 balls to spare. Rameen Shamim and Sadia Yousuf took a wicket each for Pakistan.

Kapp was named player of the match for her match-winning century. South Africa now lead the three-match ODI series 1-0. Two further ODIs will be played at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore, both starting at 3:30 pm Pakistan time.
