Advancing Gender Responsive Policing in Balochistan
The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), through the EU-funded Deliver Justice Project, organised an awareness session on gender responsive services in the Balochistan Police at Balochistan University of Information Technology Engineering and Management Sciences (BUITEMS) in Quetta. The session aimed to support the institutionalisation of gender-responsive reforms within provincial policing and to spark dialogue on practical steps for change.
Speakers underscored that embedding inclusive, transparent and citizen-centered practices is central to effective gender responsive policing, highlighting the need for targeted training, updated procedures and stronger community engagement to enhance trust between the public and law enforcement.
More than 120 students and faculty took part in the discussion, contributing questions and perspectives on how academic institutions and youth can promote gender equality, improve reporting mechanisms and support safer interactions with police for women and vulnerable groups.
Participants welcomed the collaboration between UNODC and the European Union under the Deliver Justice Project, noting that such partnerships help build capacity across the province and reinforce the Balochistan Police’s commitment to mainstreaming gender-sensitive services.
