Veteran Producer Ghulam Abbas Expands Student Outreach
Ghulam Abbas serves as a senior producer at Radio Pakistan Islamabad and has stewarded the station’s drama section for about ten years, producing a wide range of plays that have engaged listeners across the capital region. His work keeps the creative community of Rawalpindi and Islamabad connected, with many local artists forming an integral part of his ensemble.
Alongside drama production, Ghulam Abbas presents a programme called Students Magazine that aims to inform young people about government-provided facilities and opportunities. He emphasizes practical outreach, striving to bring useful information directly to students and relying on listener feedback to measure how effectively those services are reaching their audience.
With roughly three decades in radio broadcasting, his career began at Radio Rawalpindi. He later spent six and a half years in the United Kingdom before returning to Pakistan, after which he continued his service at Radio Pakistan Islamabad. That long experience has shaped his approach to programming and community engagement.
His dual focus on drama and student outreach reinforces the cultural and civic role of public radio in Islamabad. By providing a platform for local artists and a channel for student-focused information, his programmes contribute to a stronger media connection between institutions and citizens in the twin cities.
