Punjab Prisons Launch Jail Visitation App
Rawalpindi — The Punjab Department of Prisons has rolled out a new jail visitation app to allow inmates across the province to meet their families online, officials confirmed. The department issued an official notification announcing the app and the steps for its implementation, reported Malik Imran Khan Awan.
Under the rollout plan, dedicated facilitation centers will be set up inside jails to manage video sessions and provide technical support for families and inmates. Authorities have been directed to display awareness banners at prison premises so relatives know how to register and book virtual visits through the app.
Officials said the initiative aims to reduce the need for repeated visits to correctional facilities by enabling scheduled online meetings from family homes. The notification states that the jail visitation app will be available in all jails across Punjab and will follow prescribed security and scheduling protocols.
Local prison administrations in Rawalpindi and other districts will supervise the establishment of these centers and the public information campaign. The department said the new digital system is intended to streamline access, ease crowding in visiting areas and make family contact more consistent and manageable.
