Ayaz Sadiq Pushes Gaza Ceasefire at IPU
Speaking at the 151st Inter-Parliamentary Union in Geneva, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq urged urgent international measures to protect civilians and uphold humanitarian law. He called for an immediate Gaza ceasefire and stronger global safeguards to prevent further loss of innocent lives, stressing that the plight of Palestinians over the last two years is a test of conscience for the international community.
Sardar Ayaz Sadiq warned that violations of national sovereignty undermine the foundations of international order and justice, and reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to neutrality, independence and humanitarian principles in global affairs. He appealed to fellow parliamentarians to work towards bolstering international humanitarian law and ensuring meaningful protection for civilians caught in conflict.
The Speaker welcomed the Gaza ceasefire initiative as a constructive step toward sustained peace in the Middle East and reaffirmed Pakistan’s steadfast support for the Palestinian right to self-determination. He urged parliamentary diplomacy to translate ceasefire commitments into durable humanitarian relief and a political process that respects human rights.
On regional matters, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq strongly condemned human rights violations in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir and denounced demographic engineering and suppression of civil liberties as grave breaches of international law. He said Pakistan exercised restraint in the face of unprovoked aggression but reserved the right to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The Speaker expressed serious concern over India’s unilateral suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, describing the move as a threat to regional stability and water security. He also raised the issue of anti-Pakistan activities by the India-backed group Fitna al-Khawarij operating from Afghan territory and defended Pakistan’s counter-terrorism actions as necessary for civilian protection and border security.
Sardar Ayaz Sadiq highlighted climate change as an urgent humanitarian crisis that disproportionately impacts Pakistan despite its minimal contribution to global emissions. He urged fair and equitable financial support for vulnerable countries suffering recurring natural disasters and called for international solidarity in adaptation and recovery efforts.
Underlining Pakistan’s commitment to multilateralism, he introduced Pakistan’s proposed UN Security Council Resolution 2788 as a demonstration of the country’s dedication to peace and stability. He emphasized that diplomacy, dialogue and parliamentary cooperation remain the most effective tools for building global harmony and accountability.
The Pakistani delegation to the IPU meeting included Federal Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, Minister of State Barrister Aqeel Malik, and MNAs Choudhry Shahbaz Babar, Dr. Sharmila Sahiba Faruqui Hashaam, Ms. Muneeba Iqbal and Mr. Aijaz Hussain Jakhrani, all supporting Pakistan’s calls for humanitarian relief, legal protections and regional stability.
