Federal Minister for IT Shiza Fatima Khawaja visited the National Radio and Telecommunication Corporation facility in Haripur to review the newly established Chromebook assembly line, accompanied by US Chargé d’Affaires Natalie A. Baker and a senior Google delegation led by Kevin Keels and country director Farhan Qureshi. Representatives including Omar Farooq and the CEO of Tech Valley Pakistan joined the inspection.
Managing Director NRTC Brigadier (R) Muhammad Khalid, the deputy managing director and their teams welcomed the visitors and provided a detailed briefing on NRTC initiatives and the Chromebook assembly project. After the briefing, the delegation toured the assembly line to see production processes and integration firsthand.
The Chromebook assembly line is a collaborative effort between Google, Allied Australia, NRTC and Tech Valley Pakistan. Officials described the project as a significant milestone for Pakistan’s digital and economic self-reliance and a practical step toward the Prime Minister’s Digital Nation vision. The Chromebook assembly is expected to strengthen local manufacturing capacity while supporting national technology goals.
Minister Shiza Fatima Khawaja noted that local assembly of Chromebooks will make affordable, high-quality digital devices more accessible to youth across Pakistan, while stimulating job creation and industrial activity. She highlighted the country’s transition from predominantly software services toward hardware manufacturing and praised Tech Valley for its key role in system integration and completing the project.
The government reaffirmed its commitment to promoting technology manufacturing and broader digital development. With the Chromebook assembly operational, Pakistan aims to expand domestic production capabilities and make stronger progress toward regional exports, reinforcing the focus on practical growth in the tech sector.
