PTA chairman to drive South Asia telecom cooperation

Islamabad hosted the South Asian Telecommunication Regulators Council meeting where the PTA chairman, Major General (R) Hafeez ur Rehman, was elected president of the regional council by the unanimous consensus of South Asian representatives.

The three-day international meeting, hosted by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority and continuing until 7 November, brought together regulators, industry leaders and subject matter experts to discuss regional collaboration.

As PTA chairman, Hafeez ur Rehman underlined a commitment to comprehensive digital development across the region and emphasised Pakistan’s intent to advance cooperation through the use of modern technologies.

Participants at the SATRC gathering worked on strengthening digital transformation processes and promoting sustainable ICT development, with regulators and industry figures contributing to a coordinated regional approach.

Pakistan’s role as host reflected its active engagement in fostering telecom cooperation in South Asia, and the PTA chairman reiterated that continued collaboration will be central to achieving shared digital growth objectives.
