Inviting Crop Trust Pakistan for Research Collaboration
Rana Tanveer Hussain, Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research, met with Mr. Stefan Schmitz, Executive Director of The Crop Trust, to discuss enhanced cooperation on conserving crop diversity and strengthening agricultural resilience in Pakistan.
The minister praised the Crop Trust’s role in conserving and improving crop diversity in Pakistan’s agricultural sector, highlighting the importance of climate resistant and resilient crops for national food security. He noted that focused research and seed conservation efforts are essential to protect vital crop varieties against changing climatic conditions.
Rana Tanveer Hussain invited the organisation to open an office in Pakistan to boost collaboration in research and development. A local Crop Trust Pakistan presence is expected to facilitate joint R&D projects, accelerate seed conservation initiatives and support development of climate resilient cropping strategies tailored to Pakistani farmers.
The invitation underlines Pakistan’s intent to deepen scientific cooperation on crop diversity and resilience, with both sides committed to exploring ways to translate research into practical measures that safeguard agricultural biodiversity and strengthen food security.
