Prime Minister Launches Major Railway Upgrade

Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif inaugurated the upgraded Karachi Cantt station and the newly refurbished Shalimar Express, marking a major step in the government’s programme to modernize national rail services. The Railway Upgrade brings renewed facilities aimed at improving passenger experience across a key urban hub.

During his visit to Karachi Cantt, the prime minister inspected the CIP lounge, family waiting area and the newly installed information desk. He also reviewed the functioning of escalators and the broad digitalization efforts introduced across the station, praising the enhanced service quality intended for daily commuters and long-distance travellers.

Onboard the new Shalimar Express, the prime minister toured the coaches, dining car and kitchen to assess the comfort and hygiene standards now in place. The train’s modern fittings and attention to passenger amenities were highlighted as central to delivering a more comfortable travel environment.

Federal Minister for Railways Mohammad Hanif Abbasi addressed attendees about ongoing reforms, completed projects and future objectives, explaining how these measures form part of a wider plan to bring Pakistan Railways into a more contemporary operational era. He said the initiatives will support improved connectivity and reliable service for the public.

The government described the programme as a milestone for Pakistan Railways, with the Railway Upgrade expected to strengthen infrastructure, enhance national links and raise the standard of services available to passengers nationwide.
