Fighting Online Abuse to Protect Women

Civil society organisations in Pakistan are shouldering much of the response to online abuse, providing shelters, helplines and online support networks that victims urgently need. The growing incidence of online abuse makes these local services essential for immediate safety and longer term recovery.

Groups such as the National Commission for the Rights of the Child and the AGHS Legal Aid Cell highlight the critical role of guidance and legal support in addressing online abuse. Their work to offer advice, represent survivors and push for safer digital spaces helps bridge gaps where formal systems may fall short.

Sweden has expressed clear support for these efforts, underscoring that there is NoExcuse for online abuse and that protecting women and girls requires coordinated action across shelters, helplines and digital platforms. Support from international partners strengthens civil society capacity to respond effectively during campaigns like the 16 Days of Activism and beyond.

Ensuring avenues to protect women and girls both online and offline is central to preserving dignity and enabling participation. Continued investment in legal aid, counselling and safer online environments helps ensure women and girls can speak, take part and lead without fear.
