Honouring Polio Workers on World Polio Day
On World Polio Day, polio workers were publicly honoured for their sustained efforts in vaccination and community outreach as officials and health partners gathered to acknowledge frontline service.
Special Secretary Health Shaikh Baloch and Emergency Operation Centre Coordinator Inaam ul Haq addressed the event alongside political, religious and tribal leaders, praising the commitment of polio workers and urging continued community support for immunisation drives.
The ceremony included presentation of shields and awards to polio workers as tokens of appreciation. Representatives from the Expanded Programme on Immunisation including Dr Aftab Kakar and District Health Officer Dr Aimal Mandokhail joined PSTF member Maulana Anwar ul Haq Haqqani, Qari Abdul Rasheed, Dawood Khan Malik, Majeed Kakar and Malik Amin Shehwani in recognising the teams whose daily work reaches vulnerable children.
International and programme partners also participated, with Dr Zafar Khusti, Team Lead IN STOP Dr Sami Tarin, UNICEF lead Shapoor Suleman, BMGF focal person Dr Najeeb Marwat and WHO representatives attending to reaffirm collaborative support. The event highlighted the essential role of polio workers and multi-stakeholder coordination in sustaining vaccination coverage.
