Political Coalition Backs FMGs Rights Drive
Support for FMGs rights has gained new momentum following high-level meetings in Islamabad led by Dr Rafey Sher and his team. The Pakistan Peoples Party announced formal backing for the campaign, marking a key turning point in efforts to secure fair treatment and legal recognition for foreign medical graduates.
MNA Amir Moin Peerzada of MQM confirmed his party’s support after productive discussions with Dr Rafey Sher, noting that MQM recognises the important role FMGs play in Pakistan’s healthcare and social fabric. The endorsement from MQM strengthens a growing political coalition that already includes the PPP and the Awami National Party.
Select members of JUI-F have also indicated support as deliberations continue, and Dr Rafey Sher emphasised the coalition’s focus on concrete legislative reform. The proposed reforms centre on clear legal protections, improved access to healthcare and formal social security benefits for FMGs.
Dr Rafey Sher said the expanding political support creates a realistic pathway for policy change, and his team will continue engagement with party leaders and lawmakers to translate endorsements into actionable legislation. With multiple parties on board, advocates are now positioning the FMGs rights agenda for parliamentary consideration and broader public policy debate.
