Women’s Property Rights and Justice in Pakistan

**Summary:**
A public forum held in Sihala provided a vital platform for women to share their experiences of being denied inheritance and property rights, often by their own families. The event, spearheaded by Federal Ombudsperson Ms. Fauzia Viqar and Additional Deputy Commissioner (East) Ms. Mehreen Baloch, offered legal support and underlined the government’s commitment to ensuring justice for women.

During the Khuli Kacheri session in Sihala, women recounted painful stories of being deprived of their lawful shares in family property and facing pressure to remain silent. One woman spoke of losing her right to her father’s land, while another described her nephews seizing her late father’s house and refusing to return it.

The forum was organized to address such injustices. Women who had been forcefully evicted, unlawfully left out of inheritance, or emotionally coerced by their families finally found a space to voice their grievances openly and safely. Ms. Fauzia Viqar, Federal Ombudsperson, led the event, reaffirming the state’s commitment to upholding women’s property rights.

Legal experts at the gathering provided immediate guidance, enabling many women to begin the process of reclaiming their rightful property. Organizers emphasized that justice encompasses dignity and equitable access, and pledged continued support to break the silence around women’s property rights.

FOSPAH reiterated its dedication to economic empowerment and access to justice for women, stating it would remain persistent in championing the voices and rights of those who have historically been marginalized.
