Islamabad Schoolgirls Develop Smart Home Project to Promote Energy Efficiency

Students at Islamabad Model School for Girls (I–VIII), G-7/3-2, have broken new ground by designing a working model of a smart home lighting system aimed at conserving energy. Under the mentorship of the Ministry of Federal Education & Professional Training, the project demonstrates how practical education can drive both technological innovation and environmental sustainability.

Bringing digital skills into the classroom, the students constructed a mini smart lighting system utilizing Arduino microcontrollers, PIR motion sensors, and LEDs. Their demonstration showcased how motion detection technology can ensure lights are switched on only when needed, thereby limiting unnecessary electricity consumption. The project not only highlighted automation’s potential in energy conservation for homes and buildings but also suggested broader applications in telecom and infrastructure sectors.

This initiative supports the ministry’s commitment to equipping students with future-ready digital skills while fostering real-world problem-solving abilities. Early engagement with technology, as seen in this project, helps build a foundation for environmental responsibility and innovation among the youth.
