Punjab Advances Towards a Plastic-Free Future with Strategic Action Plan
In a focused drive toward achieving a plastic-free environment in Punjab, Secretary Silwat Saeed chaired a strategic session alongside representatives from ISP Environmental Solutions Pvt. Ltd. and the CM Punjab Green Credit Program (CMPGCP) team to evaluate the progress and potential expansion of Reverse Vending Machines (RVMs) across the province.
While recognizing the innovative progress made and early achievements, Madam Silwat Saeed highlighted that technological solutions, though necessary, are insufficient alone for lasting change. She stressed that data-driven approaches and wide-scale behavioural transformation are crucial elements that must now become central to the program.
To support these objectives, she instructed immediate development and implementation of a comprehensive communication and capacity-building plan. The approach aims to foster greater public awareness and participation, embedding the importance of plastic recycling and encouraging practices aligned with circular economy principles.
Madam Saeed also set clear, result-oriented goals for both ISP Environmental Solutions and the CMPGCP teams, emphasizing the priority of achieving measurable impacts beyond merely obtaining visibility. She called for RVMs to go beyond their current role as equipment installations to become active tools that collect behavioural insights and inform targeted policy interventions and community engagement strategies.
Under Madam Saeed’s proactive leadership, Punjab is steadily advancing towards its goal of becoming a plastic-free province, utilizing structured planning, data-centric decision making, and clear, measurable outcomes as its guiding principles. While this important journey has already commenced, the real task of transforming public behaviour and delivering sustainable results now remains the primary focus of the government’s environmental agenda.
