Deepening Pakistan Sudan health Partnership
Federal Minister for Health Mustafa Kamal received a high-level Sudanese delegation led by Sudan’s Federal Secretary of Health, with Pakistan’s Federal Secretary Health Hamid Yaqoob and senior officials from the Ministry of National Health Services also present.
The meeting underscored Pakistan’s emphasis on close ties with Sudan and a readiness to expand collaboration across the health sector. Officials described this engagement as a concrete step to strengthen Pakistan Sudan health links through practical cooperation and shared expertise.
The Sudanese delegation outlined the severe challenges facing health services at home and presented a comprehensive five-year strategic framework comprising about 45 health-related projects. They requested Pakistani support for the rehabilitation and reconstruction of facilities, provision of medical equipment and technologies, restoration of solar energy systems at clinics, and deeper institutional collaboration.
Mr. Kamal affirmed Pakistan’s willingness to support the training of Sudanese medical personnel, facilitate expert exchanges, and enable knowledge sharing without restricting cooperation to any single domain. He noted that pharmaceuticals, medical devices and regulatory matters are managed by the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan, which is progressing toward WHO Regulatory Maturity Level 3, an important factor for joint initiatives under the Pakistan Sudan health agenda.
Matters related to medical tourism and visa facilitation were also discussed, with the minister indicating that diplomatic missions would coordinate on easing procedural hurdles. To ensure timely follow-up, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will expedite finalisation of a Memorandum of Understanding to guide practical cooperation.
Concluding the meeting, the Federal Minister assured continued Pakistani support in emergency response, recovery efforts, capacity building and the development of long-term partnerships aimed at strengthening Sudan’s health sector in line with the agreed strategic framework.
