Elevating Islamabad Tourism with Festival 2026
Islamabad will host the Pakistan Tourism, Sports & Family Festival 2026, a two-day public event designed to elevate Islamabad tourism through a blend of adventure, culture and family entertainment. The festival aims to present a dynamic, welcoming image of Pakistan while inviting local and international visitors to engage with the capital’s growing tourism offerings.
Adventure tourism will be on vivid display with paragliding demonstrations descending from the Margalla Hills and hot air balloon displays that will transform the city skyline. These high-profile attractions are intended to showcase Islamabad tourism as a hub for outdoor activity and scenic experiences set against the capital’s natural backdrop.
Special zones will highlight religious tourism and medical tourism, offering information stalls and promotional material that underline Pakistan’s capacity for faith-based visits and quality healthcare services. These dedicated areas are part of a broader effort to present diverse travel opportunities beyond conventional sightseeing.
Cultural programming will feature provincial showcases and Kalasha performances that celebrate Pakistan’s regional diversity. Visitors will also encounter arts, crafts, gems and jewellery exhibitions alongside live painting and photography displays, reinforcing the festival’s role in promoting cultural heritage as a pillar of Islamabad tourism.
Public participation is central to the festival with sporting events such as a marathon and cycling races offering cash prizes of up to PKR 100,000 to encourage mass engagement and promote a healthy, active lifestyle. Adventure activities including rock climbing will complement the competitive events and add to the festival’s vibrant atmosphere.
Families are a core focus with a fully developed Family Arena, interactive children’s activities and a nationwide food festival showcasing regional cuisines. The combination of family-oriented programming and broader attractions seeks to make the festival an inclusive destination for all ages and interests.
The event carries strong international engagement, with ambassadors from more than 30 countries expected to attend. As part of cultural diplomacy, foreign diplomats will be offered guided sightseeing tours of Islamabad aboard a double-decker bus to experience the capital’s planning, heritage and scenic points of interest firsthand.
Sardar Yasir Ilyas Khan, the Prime Minister’s Coordinator on Tourism, emphasized the economic potential of tourism, noting that Pakistan could generate between $40 and $50 billion annually if its natural assets, cultural richness and hospitality are effectively showcased. He described the festival as a strategic initiative to reposition Pakistan and advance Islamabad tourism on the global stage.
The Pakistan Tourism, Sports & Family Festival 2026 is being promoted as a milestone for the city, redefining Islamabad not only as an administrative capital but as a destination for culture, adventure and opportunity, and advancing a long-term vision for sustainable tourism-led economic growth.
