Boosting Marble Exports with New Marble Policy
SAPM Haroon Akhtar Khan chaired a high-level meeting in Islamabad with the All Pakistan Marble Industry Association and the Pakistan Stone Development Company (PASDEC) to address persistent bottlenecks in marble exports and barriers to value addition.
He announced that the marble sector will be declared an industry and said a National Marble Policy will be introduced soon to resolve regulatory and operational challenges. The proposed Marble Policy aims to streamline incentives and facilitation to make the sector more competitive at international markets.
Officials and industry representatives discussed the need for greater value addition, improved branding and export-oriented strategies that leverage Pakistan’s world-class marble. The government signalled it will pursue policy-level reforms in consultation with stakeholders to enhance productivity and export performance under the new Marble Policy framework.
Mr. Khan emphasised that stabilising the marble sector will create employment and urged the provision of training in modern skills and technical assistance to boost efficiency. He encouraged PASDEC and private firms to adopt modern technology and innovation in processing to raise quality and margins for exporters.
As a next step, the SAPM directed PASDEC and the Marble Association to prepare proposals for collaboration with Italy focused on technology transfer, capacity building and export enhancement. These measures are intended to increase marble exports, attract investment and contribute to broader industrial growth in Pakistan.
