Driving Dyslexia Awareness in Islamabad Schools
The Private Educational Institutions Regulatory Authority (PEIRA) held a key meeting in its Committee Room under the chairmanship of Dr. Ghulam Ali Mallah to advance Dyslexia Awareness and inclusive education across private schools in the Islamabad Capital Territory. Senior officers of PEIRA attended to discuss early identification of learning difficulties and the steps required to build supportive school environments for students with dyslexia.
Participants examined both academic and social challenges that learners with dyslexia face and stressed the need for structured institutional mechanisms within Private Educational Institutions. The discussions highlighted the importance of teacher capacity building for early screening, adopting effective classroom strategies and adjusting assessment methods so students with learning differences receive fair opportunities to demonstrate their abilities.
To translate Dyslexia Awareness into action, PEIRA agreed to organise awareness seminars and orientation sessions for school principals, teachers and parents to remove misconceptions and improve understanding of learning disabilities. The Authority also committed to strengthening institutional capacity by encouraging private schools to recruit qualified remedial therapists, selecting and training teachers as Master Trainers for learning support, and equipping educators with practical skills for early identification and classroom support of dyslexic learners.
PEIRA will work with education experts, stakeholders and representatives of educational institutions to develop a coordinated framework for dyslexia management and inclusive practices across ICT. The aim is to establish sustainable in-house support systems within schools that provide continuous professional development and a reliable pool of certified remedial therapists to meet student needs.
Addressing attendees, Dr. Ghulam Ali Mallah emphasised that early diagnosis, teacher training and parental awareness are essential to ensure no child is left behind. He reiterated PEIRA’s commitment to promoting an enabling learning environment in Islamabad private schools and to aligning school supports with regulatory standards and international best practices so learners with dyslexia receive appropriate academic assistance.
